I generally share pretty limited details, "We've been all over. As far as here, and there. And all sorts of places."
If they glaze over that quick, I let it be. They were just being polite. If they ask if we've ever been to such and such or ask follow-on questions, I fill in details.
I think many people are just making idle conversation.
