We always travel with a Woodall's or Good Sam campground guide, Milepost, or downloaded campground list, so that we can make last-minute decisions on where to camp/park if our plans change.
We use ours more as a rolling hotel room.
Our Alaska trip proved the value of a rolling motel room because most of the old roadhouses are now closed and motels are few and far between except in the larger towns. And motels/hotels/resorts/B&Bs in the Last Frontier are exorbitantly expensive in summer. Being able to stop where we got tired or in a beautiful, scenic spot--public campground, private RV park, or on the roadside--made the very long trip much more enjoyable.
