Where to stay in Fayetteville AR?

Our son is getting ready to attend University of Arkansas this fall. Mom and I are looking for RV sites near the town to stay. We love state parks and there looks to be 3 or 4 that are within 30-40 minutes from the University. Any other parks that are really nice that are closer to town?

Thanks G

  • Southgate is an alright place. It will be 8-10 minutes from the U. It is right on 71B, just south of the Road Hog Park which is just across from Baum Stadium (baseball). Unless you can get into Road Hog, you can't get any closer. We stayed at Southgate while our son was at the U.
  • Thanks for the help, Devils Den looks and sounds good. We may try the park in town for a day or two for convenience. Then again we may just drive and stay in a hotel.
    Thanks again
  • There is no problem with big rigs at Devil's Den SP. Just be sure to enter from the north.
  • Devil's Den is a nice woodsy park but I would not take a big rig there. One way in is curvy & steep, the other way was a very narrow road. A small rv would be ok. Horseshoe Bend is too far away, don't know anything about South Gate. If South Gate is not acceptable your best bet may be, think it's called Cave Springs (on a golf course), pretty close to I 540 north of Springdale. We visit that area often and there is just not many rv parks at all.
  • South gate RV park is right in town. We stay there quite a bit. Nice folks run it. No amenities but priced right and very close to u of a.
  • Devil's Den SP is very nice and is about 30 miles south of Fayetteville. Lake Fort Smith SP, also about 30 miles is very nice also. I would not stay at Withrow Springs. The other SP's do not have RV sites. Horseshoe Bend, a COE campground on Beaver Lake is also very nice and is about 30 miles north of Fayetteville. I have stayed several times at all of these. Hickory Creek, another COE park on Beaver Lake is about 18 miles but I would not stay there. There is a small private RV in town with mixed reviews on rvparkreviews.com. I don't know anything about it.

    Safe travels.
