Who Leaves the on-demand Pump On

Always on. Don't use CG water from the tap even when it is right outside. Always use water from our tank filling it as necessary through a water softener. 6 years, hundreds of days use, who knows how many thousands of gallons of water pumped, the original pump is going strong.

A spare pump is carried.

we leave the pump on as long as we are in or near the trailer,we have water alarms under each sink and near the water heater. We always turn off the pump or city water if we have hookups when leaving the campsite even for a short walk. Most of the time I forget to turn the pump or water back on till someone goes to use it but rather forget to tutn it on than to come back to water running out of the door.

Which is why the first upgrade to any coach or trailer should be PEX.

I never leave anything "on" when I'm boondocking. I never leave the on demand switch on regardless, if a leak develops it will either empty the tank and then burn out.

Very valid points, and make damn sure you put a pressure regulator in line too before turning the water on, to keep things at 40-45 psi if you are on City Water.

The only reason to turn the water pump on is to pressurize the water lines when you need water shortly. Turn it off it you don't need water immediately or are finished up with using water from tap, shower, toilet, what ever.

Basically if I get a leak with my pump 50 gallons is going to go everywhere but I should be there to stop it. The choice is yours as to how to utilize the systems in your rig.

I think you missed that this is the boondocking forum. I doubt you operate your water heater on electric while boondocking.
