Will NY metro troubles affect my Columbus day trip?

Hi everyone, Were traveling from I684 to 287 to 78, CT to Lancaster PA this coming Columbus Day weekend, (actually were leaving on Thursday) was wondering how bad the traffic will be, I plan on leaving eastern CT by 8am.

Thanks for you help

  • Thanks everyone for your replies, yeah if I leave at 8am should hit the I684/287 area by 10:30 that said should I be ok with the NY metro troubles?

Was coming home from PA the same way this past spring when the NY metro again was having problems (my luck) Traffic was going great till I got about 12 miles west of the tappenze where it was stop & go all the way to west hartford CT... :(

  • Last month I travelled from Hartford CT down to NJ at around 3 pm on a weekday. I decided not to cross the GW Bridge, and take the Tappan Zee instead. I got stuck in bumper to bumper traffic before, on and after the bridge, and then all down the Garden State Parkway. It took me 3:15 to get to Hartford, and over 5 hours to get home. It was very frustrating. In the morning you will likely hit commuter traffic to NYC (depending on where in CT you are starting from). I-684 will likely be a mess, along with I-287 until you hit the Major Deegan, and then you should be alright because you are heading away from NYC.
  • ...if you are concerned with traffic, why leave before/during rush hour?

leave after 9 and enjoy your getaway
