As for the smoke, I don't know what to do.
Last year, the place where I was working, the air quality maps had to bring in a new color to show how bad the smoke was on some days. Red used to be the max, now it is purple.
There were days when I would step outside and just looking 20ft across the yard it would look like a fog. When the first rain came in the fall, I went outside and looked up the next day, and I literally thought to myself, 'Wow, I forgot the sky was blue.' It had been months.
If we can get some knowledgeable, dedicated people to manage our forests it will help. But those people are all being fired now.
