Winter Camping Close To New York?

Sampson State park...puts you about 5 to 6 hrs out of NYC

This has probably been mentioned but Meredith Woods in NH is real nice, there's something about a heated indoor pool in mid winter with a snowy landscape that makes this place attractive! :C

Consider Aces High RV Park in East Lyme, CT. Nice place - sites are spacious and most are quite level. We're headed there next month.

As I remember, Otter Lake has people there all winter long, especially on weekends. As I said, its close to several popular ski/snowboard areas and they have great facilities. You might even need a reservation for a time when kids are out of school. I'd give them a look on their website and/or give them a call.

Timberlane in Clarksboro NJ is open all winter. About 3 hours from NYC.

I'd be more worried about nasty winter weather while trying to get there. Historically, the worse winter weather is in Feb.

Pennsylvania has a few state parks that remain open all year.The closest to NY would be Promised Land. Pickeral Point is open all year.They have 6 electric sites available.

Let's say we decided to go to otter lake in February during the kids wi get break from school. Would we be the only ones there or would we have company? We'd love to try winter camping but also don't want to be the only people there. Lol

Our family winter camped at Otter Lake CG in East Stroudsburg, Pa (southern end of the Poconos) for about 7 years. We loved it! No water available but the bath houses are open. There is a large indoor pool with hot tub and a lot to do in the area. There are sewered sites too. We just used gallon jugs of water for the toilet, showered in the bath houses (warm!) and either washed dishes at the large sinks they provided at the bath houses (definitely not the ones in the bathroom!) OR - got a 2.5 gal plastic jug with a'petcock' on it (lets water flow or not) for cold water and found an old banquet sized coffee pot at a garage sale (the great big ones) - filled it with water and turned it on for our hot water supply for cleaning! Nothing better than a big campfire when it matters - if you're really lucky it just might start to snow! Several great snowing/snowboard choices close by too. Alpine Mountain for beginners, Shawnee, Camelback just to name a few our sons enjoyed. There's also a huge outlet shopping mall in the area. In addition, Otter Lake does, in fact, have a nice lake. Some people do ice fishing, and many there in the winter have snow mobiles. It abuts a large state forest with many trails. Haven't been there in over 10 years, but it's worth checking out. ABout 2 hours from the Jersey Shore. Seems like it might be closer from NYC because we had to go both North and West.

Have you thought about a "Ski Resort" - we used to do that with the kids and even when the snow was bad the kids had a blast - we would "check in" and be put in the out of the way spot in the parking lot, we would use the heated changing area and the n enjoy the fire place the comfy lounge areas and good food by the fire place.

When non skiing friends came they still had a blast - inside and out - not the thing you were looking for but might be fun.

Pinch Pond in Manheim Pa not for from Hershey and also Old mill Stream closer to the Lancaster area is open all year with water and also the bath houses are open at both.
