Winter in the Valley

Does anyone else remember January of 2007 in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas when it was so cold and we had seventeen days with measurable precipitation? This winter is actually worse, as this "Cold snap" began the first of December and is still "Snapping" in February. I said that I would not come back seven years ago, but I did. How many times must a guy get fooled?

Just a rant from a Winter Texan who does not like 34 degrees and rain with a wind chill of 23. I know, I know, it is warmer than Minnesota or even Illinois.

  • South TX winters are a Gamble. But percentage wise they are OK. It is rough everywhere this winter including northern FL. Hopefully, the tide will turn soon. The weather has really affected the fishing to as soon as the water starts to warm up, here comes the next cold snap. Every time we get cold, we look at the weather up north and still manage a smile! Stay warm and positive as warmer weather is coming!

The Great SouthWest Desert will soon be from the Miss River to the West coast perhaps...

Tom, they are going to take away your TX Chamber of Commerce badge. I guess it comes down to whether you believe in GW or not. Yes, I know it's now Climate Change as the GW thing is not working out with 16 years of no increase in temps. My problem is I remember when in the 70s we were worried about Global cooling and before then that we would run out of oil in 20 years. I've already lived through 8 disasters and I'm looking forward to out living this one.
PS WPB broke the record high temp of 86 yesterday and NO that does not confirm CC as the high today is 78.
*For those with an inquiring mind you might want to read this. Having grown up and lived in SE Fla for 40 years I've always said you need to be south of Vero on the east coast and Sarasota on the west for warm winter WX.
  • We WERE (January) going to Texas (RGV) from AZ to spend most of the winter.

After checking all the long range forecasts we decided to stay here in SW AZ and glad we did.

    Maybe next year?!?
