wintering in Texas State Parks?

Does anyone stay the winter in State Parks in Texas? And do they let you stay longer than 2 weeks. We want to go south next winter but we hate RV parks! We would not even mind moving a few times if we have to. But I'm not sure we would want to every two weeks. Any suggestions?
  • Pretty sure there is a 2-week max. There is here at Goose Island SP. Allot of winter texans stop there and do the 2 weeks then move to a RV Park that they have reservations for. There is another TX State Park @ Mustang Island. Also a county park in Port-A and I am not sure if it has a max-stay.

Yes two weeks - and many of the Texas state parks have full hookups - we have stayed at 11 of them over the last two winters
  • Some Texas state parks have "off season" rates -
weekly or monthly - and also permit longer stays during off season.
Check with the individual park office - they have authority to do this park by park.
  • We were at South Llano River SP last week, and they have monthly rates for winter visitors. As Joe mentioned, there are others as well, so call and inquire. Another TX wintering possibility is Potter's Creek COE Park on Canyon Lake - it allows winter-long stays from late October to early March. One has to apply every two weeks to stay longer, but the approval is automatic. Crane's Mill COE Park on the other side of Canyon Lake also offers winter-long camping. There's no break in the price for longer stays, but with the Golder Geezer card it's only $360 a month at either location.

  • You need to check with each park individually.

Lake Corpus Christi State Park - is the only one which I know of that list a winter long term rate - $120 W/S/E weekly during non-peak season (Oct-Feb) & $480 W/S/E monthly

Lake Casa Blanca International State Park (Laredo) apparently has monthly rates.

Lake Sommerville, near Brenham has a COE campground with long term winter season stays available.
  • Thank you everyone! We are Still having freezing temps and snow and Ice here in Kansas! We are ready for a break and Texas sounds wonderful right now.
