- TucsonJimExplorer IIEven with the exchange rate, I wonder if the fuel prices will will offset it. Here in Tucson, I paid $2.29 for diesel this morning. Unleaded was the same price per U.S. gallon.
- mayo30ExplorerI know that most places in southern B.C. are booked pretty tight for several years and we got the last 2 bedroom cabin on the ocean at a spot in mid Vancouver Island. The Rv spots are very busy also, but it takes a certain type of RV and person to spend the winter in an RV there. We have done it numerous times so we know.
I am finding more and more talk about the major increase in medical travel insurance to the USA as the insurance pays out in US dollars and the premiums are paid in Canadian dollars. The insurance companies need a whole lot more Canadian dollars to pay those medical bills. The refugee situation in Europe is making travel that way pretty stressful, and not too attractive either,so I believe a certain amount of travel will be done out of country. - romoreExplorer IIBetween the exchange rate and the cost of travel insurance we are not going south of 49 anytime soon. We enjoy the U.S. very much but the dollars aren't there and there is so much of Canada to see.
- John___AngelaExplorerHaven't changed our plans. Leaving in October for four months in the US and one month in Spain. Our travel insurance was the same as last year for the US and for spain we don't get any, just repatriation insurance.
- AvaExplorerI think with cheaper diesel fuel and the ability to stay in state parks or Walmart occasionally our usual trip ( about a month ) should not cost much more.
The dollar difference is always on our mind but the travelling is fun and we just have to be more careful about any spending.
It is still nice to have a warm holiday in the middle of the winter. - TequilaExplorerI am headed down to Mexico as I have done for the last 8 years. You can't take it with you and sooner or later you are too sick, old & stupid to travel.

Too true...when the economy crashed in 2008, we proceeded as planned to use some retirement money to buy an RV anyway. There's a window of time after you stop working which eventually closes. Sometimes much sooner than expected. - John_JoeyExplorerMany of our Canadian neighbors/friends who aren't on this forum bought US Dollars when the Loony was strong. That will help them out now that the exchange rate is so bad. Sooner or later those US dollars will run out.
Very interesting statement about paying health insurance premiums in Canadian dollars but benefits in US dollars that make a ton of sense how that will not work in the long run. Guessing those that did not have their premiums go up are still young enough where the insurance underwriters' don't view them as a high risk. That will change as they age I'm guessing.
I'm thinking that the long term snowbirds will start to shrink. Coming down for a couple of months is not so hard on the pocketbook as it would be for six months. - joebedfordNomad IIWe're going to do our usual 4 months but we have our eyeballs on the $$. Lower fuel prices won't compensate for increased everything else but it's still better than spending the winter in Canada.
The big difference for us is that we're not going to be buying lots of 'stuff' other than the essentials. I've always taken advantage of lower prices on electronics, rv stuff, etc. - we just won't be buying any of that 'stuff' this winter. - CardinalRuleExplorer

And we are taking more "stuff" with use rather than buy when we get south. Stuff like coffee, water filters, oil & filters, etc. etc. etc. Every bit helps offset the low buck.
