WORST EXPERIENCE AT AN RV PARK

Last week we stayed at the Bakersfield Palms RV Park in Bakersfield,CA. We thought we had asked all the right questions when making this reservation, but obviously not. There is a railroad track on one side of this park and a busy highway on another side. Restrooms are locked from 11:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m., even though we had a pass code to the door. The park is divided into short term and long term by a fence. The long term side is populated by broken down RVs. We found a man lying on the floor in the men's restroom, not sick. Not given a code to the internet connection at checkout and office closed when we went for it. Not a safe or restful stop. Office staff just said "sorry about that" to our complaints.
  • I too stay there on my way south. I like the short term parking. It is a quick overnight stop. Never used any of their facilities.
  • When possible, I stay at KOAs because I want full hookups including WIFI and cable, and pull thru sites. If they have a pool and/or playground and an area for dog walking, that's OK with me. I just don't use them. I'm either there for one night on my way to my destination or at my destination and gone all day, every day. I'm single, so I don't have to please anyone but myself. Works for me, but I do appreciate the KOA haters on this board. There's always room for me. :)
  • We stay there al the time. On way to and from CA.
    Never had a problem.
Liked there short term parking sites.
We always use our own utility's.
  • My worst experience at an RV park was my own fault. I left my awning out while we were gone and a storm blew up and came off of Lake Erie. Enough damage was done for insurance to total out the rig. So with that said if I pull into a RV park that looks like what the OP described I would simply make a U turn out of there and find somewhere else even if it's a Walmart
  • I don't know how you could have expected anything else based on what every map and satellite picture shows you.

    Google is your friend.

In this case it would have been your best friend. It shows railways, airports, the neighbourhood (residential, industrial farm country, etc.). Google Earth and Street View also give you a pretty good idea of what the park and surrounding area is like.
  • Boil water advisory and oil fired hot water heater in the men's room leaking exhaust inside. That's the worst we saw. Also the most dangerous.

Worst review I have written on rvparkreviews.
  • Never really had an real bad experience at an RV park. We did stay at a broken down KOA near UVA and the lady/ co-owner was very strange and in everyone's business. She had so many rules for the jumping pillow my kids said no thanks.

Usually my worst experience is check out time, been pretty lucky with where we stay.
