Yuma...A Pit Stop on the way to somewhere better!
I just don't get what draws people to this place. It's Windy ,dusty and either Too Hot or Freezing Cold!
Sorry I just can't recommend Yuma as a destination for the Winter!

I really need to go back and take another look, as I have been saying for years "when they stick the big emena tube in Earth, it is going in real close to Yuma!"
And that may not be fair!

If you are comparing Yuma winter weather with any other place in AZ, Yuma will measure milder, with less wind/dust than most if not all of the other popular snowbird destinations. January weather comparisons A comparison of wind and air quality will also favor Yuma. Sure Tucson and PHX metro areas will have more amenities, they should given the population.
In Yuma we can have the kayaks launched in 5 minutes after leaving the house, we could not do that in either PHX or Tucson. I can pick all the free lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower we can eat...thanks to the neighboring farms, I can pick grapefruit, oranges, tangelos, pecans, all winter in our yard...and home grown tomatoes in Feb. We can be in MX in 30 minutes, or on the SD beach in 3 hours. Bottom line is Yuma is not for everyone, but to disparage Yuma because it does not suit you, is doing everyone a dis-service... we are all different, we want different things and for the moment, Yuma provides most of what we desire in a winter destination.

My criteria for someplace to spend several weeks/months include performing arts, museums, good shopping, good restaurants, large areas with varied terrain to explore, etc., major university nearby, that's why we don't winter in Yuma.
