A lighter dinette table

Question

If you have a full-time dining room table, you can stop reading -- and yes, I envy you.

My dinette table converts into our bed, so we have to wrestle it into position every night. The stock table was MDF and formica -- about 30 pounds! So I made my own out of Baltic Birch plywood -- about half as heavy, and just as good. If you are interested in the details, here is a link to a blog post -- this is a simple and easy project:

I did similar with a glue-up pine panel. Those MDF and Formica tops are heavy. I finally got away from the pedestal legs (kept breaking and were cumbersome to remove/set in place). I substituted a pair of folding metal table legs. Now, if I wished, I can even take the table outside.

Well done. :BOur trailer doesn't even have a dinette, just a sofa, and was supplied with a stand alone table with folding legs ... but boy is it heavy. :(  I ditched that puppy right from the get-go and we instead use a couple of light weight folding TV tables those few times we eat inside the camper.

I hadn't thought about that -- the ability to take the table and the legs outside.  We boondock most of the time, and there is almost never a picnic table available.  Hmmmm -- sounds like I've got another project coming right up!
