Dinette Table Leg Replacement

One of our dinette leg pedestal bases came off and the legs never really seemed steady since we first bought our TT. We would like to replace the legs with folding legs or a scissor lift system.

We really like the folding table base sold by Factory RV Surplus, but shipping cost alone is $50.

Folding Table Base

Has anyone had luck replacing the standard chrome pipe legs?
  • All great ideas, thanks for the feedback. The table is in a booth dinette, so we can't mount the table to the wall. The flooring is thick carpet and in a slide, so the factory screws for the base are really short. That's why they pulled out so easily - on the first trip!

A stand alone option seemed better, but will probably take up valuable human leg space. If there are other options, we are interested.
  • We had our dealer replace the standard wobbly legs with ones from Lance. Now have zero movement plus they look slick.

Another way of doing it is like I did in our first TT. There is an aluminum bracket available that attaches to the wall and the end of the table and you use a single folding leg. The bracket is available at RV dealers that sell parts and also online like here for ex. dyersonline.com This setup is also rock solid. If you do this, you will be left with screw holes in the floor though. I put laminate flooring down so that didn't matter. You can always get patch pieces installed by a floor layer by stealing pieces from a hidden spot in your TT (under a dinette seat for ex.)

  • Most people we have talked to really dislike the folding table base. You cut up your knees fairly regularly on them, particularly if you have the booth seating. They are awkward to operate unless you pull the table out. Can you tell we hated ours?
  • We got rid of the flimsy OEM table legs pretty quickly. We went to the single posts and they did a fine job. You'll have some measuring and calculating to do if the window is low or if you have the upholstered trim around the window, but not hard. Just take your time.

Not at all familiar with the ones mentioned, sorry.
  • I have a rather heavy table and have a single aluminum leg with screw down base. They sure sell them cheap enough on E Bay.
I broke the first one by attaching some filler on the bottom of the leg to make it stop wobbling.
That folding set looks to be a much better alternative but, yes, ouch on the shipping.
  • I replaced my wobbly posts with this and this. The table is rock solid and folds down easily if we need it to.
