Adding Cabinets

So there is an empty space above our couch in our new TT that I had considered adding another set of cabinets . Is there a place online maybe that I could find a set to match or are all manufacturers using custom built cabinets ?

Check with local cabinet makers. You may be able to find doors that match the rig.

See if you can track down a cabinet maker that does small one off jobs.

Another source for doors is the big box building supply stores. Don't use their cabinet kits though, they are made from MDF and are too heavy to hang on an RV wall.

Great suggestion! I have been a cabinet maker for 35 years and have done cabinet work in a few RV's including my own. Putting additional cabinets in an RV can be a challange, particularly tring to locate adiquate structure to secure the new work. Also, if you talk to the dealers, they often have an outside source to get this type of work done, so ask if they can recommend someone. If we ever should meet around any given campfire I would be glad to help out. No job to small. WE travel with our tools for just such an occasion!

My son is a cabinet maker, so I have an inside source. I have a couple of small one off jobs for him. I like his rates to :)

  • Check the salvage companies. We remodeled an old 5ver & were able to find the exact wood match. DH modified those cabinets to what we wanted for pennies compared to custom order. We did the same thing in the current 5ver but bought only doors, buiilding the cabinets themselves & staining them to match the interior.
When insurance companies total an RV, many times many parts are still perfectily useable. A salvage company will strip them & sell all the useable items for decent prices.

  • I am very grateful that my DH builds cabinets etc as his hobby. He has done several new cupboards and drawers in our 5ver,

(iawoody2...my father retired from John Deeres Waterloo in 1985 went fulltiming & still enjoying retirement)
  • Contact your rv company customer service and tell what you need, they can be very helpful. I currently have on orders some cabinets for our 5er .
  • Our manufacturer built all of the cabinets and doors used in teir RVs

The hot thing for interior designers right now is to mix cabinet styles in homes and even in RVs. We had a very narrow and tall area by the front door in our 5th wheel. My wife found a cabinet at a garage sale that fits the spot perfect. It's not even close to the cabinet style in the RV, but the spot it is in makes the look it provides perfect. It actually looks like a piece of furniture or decorative item vs. a cabinet.
  • Have you tried your TT manufacturer. Often they will have cabinets, or at least doors, available.
