i anchored mine directly with screws
but since your going for a bigger hole
you might want to try a hollow cutter
a piece of stainless tubing the correct size, sharpened from the inside edge out
it other words a a round razor turning in your drill driver
cut the rubber not the under layment
then use a conventional bit to drill the hole
this way you don't run the risk of twisting the epdm roof material
