Any way to convert corner bed to twin?

Hello!

I'm considering buying a Class C rental that has a corner bed. The problem is my husband will have difficulty getting into and out of that type of bed. (He has Parkinson's.)

Do you think there is a way to convert a corner bed into a twin bed?

I really want to get a 26 footer Class C so I can park it in the driveway, and for my ease in driving it.

TIA!
Martha

  • Thank you both.

I have not purchased an RV, I've been looking online. (We currently have a popup trailer.)

I'm trying to keep the price of the RV under $30,000 and have been looking at El Monte RV sales for potential RVs. I guess I'll have to go in person and look at the bed setup.

    Thanks again!
  • Assuming you just want to cut down the bed to gain floor space next to it, that probably is possible (most anything is) given enough time, effort, and/or money. How practical it is depends greatly on the specifics of the motorhome design.

Usually the space underneath the bed is filled with something else--often water tanks, storage compartments, or some of the RV systems. If you just have storage under the part of the bed you want to remove, then it should be fairly straightforward, though it may involve fabricating some flooring and supports for the same. If there's a water tank, that will be quite difficult to work around. If it's other systems, like electrical or furnace or whatever, it could vary from tedious but not too difficult all the way to nearly impossible.

I think you would be better off finding something with a more accessible bed than trying to modify a corner bed. One possibility might be a rear slide (as in one that slides out backwards), such as the Winnebago View 24G.

Frankly, there's not much difference actually driving the longer and shorter units. The longer ones are more cumbersome to maneuver in close quarters, but once you get out of the gas station or parking lot I don't think it makes much difference. That doesn't help things when your driveway is shorter than your RV, of course.
  • My first RV was a TT with a corner bed. It was completely surrounded by walls with only the corner exposed for entry to the bed. I presume you want one side of the bed exposed for entry. That would not have worked in our case.

Not all corner beds are the same. Further descriptions would help and a photo(s) would be a big help. Look at the post at the beginning of this part of the forum for directions on putting a photo in your post.
