Bathroom doorknob replacement?

We just bought a new (2001) truck camper and the bathroom has a door handle like you would find on an old screen door. Picture a smaller version of the doorknobs in your house. While looking at the camper, my wife and I each hit this thing at least twice. I can picture ripping this off the first time I shove our kayaks inside.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a low-profile replacement. I'm tempted to just replace it with a hook and eye latch.
