Bedroom Slide Tips

Question

Our front bedroom slide is the bed, the wood box frame slides in and out on the carpet and is wearing out the carpet, the previous owner put in a regular mattress which probably weighs more than the factory mattress, (I am guessing) and would like to come up with a fix to protect the carpet as the mattress is very nice. I have thought of the following but before I try I thought maybe you guys might have some tips as well, please let me know if you do or what would probably work the best.

Currently under the front of the wood frame they have (2) 6" pieces of flat metal under the wood frame to slide on the carpet.

1) I thought about wrapping the front of the wood frame with a thick plastic the complete front width of the frame so it can glide on the carpet.(not sure what to use for this or where to get it)

2) I thought about adding drawer glides on the inside of the wood frame to carry the weight of the bed instead of sliding on the carpet.

3) I have been looking for, with no success, a roller track that I could install under each side of the wood frame, mounted to the floor so the bed frame would roll out on it instead of sliding on the carpet.(I think this would be the best if I could find it)

Let me know what you have done or think would work.

I have no idea if this would work, but it is the first thing that came to mind when I read this.  How about installing casters that would take the weight of the bed off the floor.  Use some blocks of wood to attach to the inside of the fram and attach the casters to the wood blocks.  You would be able to determine where you need to mount the blocks for the height of the casters that you choose.

You would be able to determine where you need to mount the blocks for the height of the casters that you choose.Thanks for the idea, I will take it one step further, with this suggestion I came up with a V groove wheel and track on each side of the bed, basically the same set up they use for gates that slide side to side. That way it keeps it straight and will keep the weight off of the carpet. I still need to go find the parts and figure out how to support them but if it works I will post some pictures.Thanks again.

Can't think of the correct name for them, but they are the pads you place furniture on so you can move it easily. They come in different sizes and shapes (round and square.) fasten them to the bottom rails.

Do you have any old roller skate or inline skates laying around? The skate wheels support a lot of weight and have a good set of roller bearings.
