Good start! The trick to a good job is all about how the surface is prepared. Needs to clean, scuffed, clean, and then, clean. I am always shifting around with primers. Fiberglass or plastic gets a bonding agent, too. For metals I may have found my holy grail--Sherwin Williams Industrial DTM. The bond even over just decently prepared surfaces is really strong.
