I have a dinette which I stack pillows against the wall to form a triangle to lay against when watching tv. The pillows constantly slide out and I was thinking about making a triangle wedge to place in the dinette to create a lounger, wanted to know if foam cushions can be glued together so I can cut the large wedge I need?Thanks for any feedback!Dave

Foam Spray Adhesive......GO to craft store (Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Walmart etc.)Get the type of adhesive for the type of foam you are gluing togetherOpen-cell, closed-cell etc.Spray both pieces and then press then together.. Foam adhesive gets tacky quickly.

I've used the stuff Old-Biscuit refers to. It's not cheap, and for my project I think I would have saved money just going to an upholstery supplier and having them custom-cut foam to the shape I wanted.It was one of those 'seemed like a good idea at the time' projects.

3M Foamfast 74 or 77 is what my BIL recommends. He uses no other than these two. I call him "the upholsterer to the Stars", lol. The guy is fussy.

I have used 3m general purpose spray contact cement with good success...In an earlier life(lol) I used to do reupholstery and repairs on motorcycle seats, and the 3m adhesive is what I used to repair or add foam to the seats....You can find it at Advance or Auto Zone.

I have some extra cushions so I have the foam already and have enough material to cover it, just have to buy the adhesive. The cushions I checked out online do not have the dimensions I need so by making it I can cut it to the size I need. But thanks for the info!

Some "projects" just are not worth wasting time or money on when you can buy item already made..

GOOD foam is not cheap now days, a can of GOOD adhesive for the foam is not cheap (seems to me the can I bought was up over $20) AND even the GOOD adhesive often does not really make good permanent joints.

Cutting the foam STRAIGHT by hand is a real challenge and the best tool I have found by far is a electric meat carving knife (yeah, the ones folks used to use at Thanksgiving to carve a turkey).

If you don't have the carving knife, foam and glue you will have spent easily $75-$100 plus your time for something that is already available..

It is a different story if you were trying to make new cushions (like we did) and there is no premade foam blanks for that (although you can order custom cut foam to YOUR dimensions at no extra cost)..

Personally, if you REALLY, REALLY want to DIY this then I would recommend mail order outfit that we have used.. We had them custom make our foam mattress to our specs including a top layer of memory foam..

They can custom cut from one big block of foam or layer it for you if you want to vary the firmness..

"Headliner" spray glue @ Joanne's Fabric Store is what you need.

Yes, with spray glue. Worked in an upholstery shop many years ago and they often glued foam together with glue shot from a gun to form a certain shape. They would also shape the foam with a large serrated bread knife.
