carpet question

Has anyone dyed a small spot on the carpet? We have a new to us 2008 Carriage Cameo and when we had the carpets cleaned the tech explained that 2 places had been dyed to match the rest of the carpet. Someone spilled something that 'bleached' the color and when he cleaned the carpet, the dye was removed.

Would love to get some 'dye' to match. Would love to get some advice and suggestions from the great folks here.

Thank you, again!

  • What a great crew, thank you all. Now onto the research for the color! The spots are really very small and not conspicuous at all and in fact, I have begun to not notice them! The rest of the carpet is almost perfect. This trailer was gently used and it shows.

Thank you again and safe travels all!
  • Rit Liquid Dye works real well on carpet.
I've done a whole room in my house with it! Rit is a permanent dye and It stayed and never faded.

And since I'm putting my MH up for sale I intend to dye all the carpet in the MH to give it a face lift! :C

And since your spot was bleached I'd take the color you decide on and put it on a white piece of cloth first and put it down on the spot to see if it matches your carpet before you apply it. So you can make adjusts in the color if needed. AND only apply it with a spray bottle.

Pick up one of those small plastic spray bottles. Put the dye in that. Make a templet using a pretty big size of cardboard so no overspray on your carpet make the opening the size of the spot you need to dye and spay the dye.

Go to a local big box fabric store like Joann's etc, to buy it they have WAY more color selections then Walmart. Good luck I think you will be happy with results. :C
  • No idea about dyes, but if the dye idea does not pan out, maybe a different approach. How large are the spots? If small, perhaps cut theme out and patch them in with carpet from an inconspicuous spot. I have seen demos of this process on home improvement shows, so you likely could find plenty on line. If spots are a bit larger, same idea could work if you have an inconspicuous spot to harvest that much carpet. Good luck.
  • Best bet would be to contact a carpet store to see what they suggest..

As you have found out, aftermarket dyes tend to not stay put.

BUT, personally, I would take the opportunity to remove and replace the carpet with a new upgraded (IE better quality) carpet or even laminate type flooring..

RV carpeting is pretty much the cheapest stuff you can get so replacing it with a decent home carpet will improve the looks and feel of your RV.
