I was able to just leave the new tv on its base, and let the original supports take the very much less weight. I did take a hacksaw and cut off the part of the base that extended in front of the screen, then drilled a couple of holes in the rear part to hold it in place. Had to add a couple of pieces of plywood to adjust the screen height to where I wanted it. original cabinet front frame supports the front edge of the new tv. Weight is on the original supports, and a rear strap holds it all in place. Looks like it was designed that way.
