Ceiling-Mounted TV

The only feature we didn't like in our new-to-us 1998 Monaco Windsor was the head-knocker TV cabinet over the driver's seat, so the old CRT TV is gone and the cabinet promptly got shortened to a nice cubby. Now we want to install a 32" flat-screen TV on a fold-down ceiling mount, but DH can't find a mount or mounting location that he likes.

If you have installed a fold-down ceiling mount that works well for you, please post the make/model of the mount, where you installed it, and pros/cons. A photo would also be wonderful.

Thanks!
  • Think about where you really want the TV. Most front TV's don't make viewing easy as the eliminate the front chairs and are high. This is the opportunity to find a better spot.
  • How about a foldup setup? A piece of 1/2" plywood attached to the shortened crt box with a piano hinge at the top and the flat panel mounted to the plywood and everything stained or painted to your liking. Install a latch of your choice at the bottom that works to hold things securely when underway. You can even install some shelving in the now empty crt box. Put rails on the front of the shelves to prevent them from unloading.
  • I did the mod. I had an overhead cabinet that i reinforced for the mount.

Mounted one year and 8000 miles ago with no problems. Stays in place even on rough roads
  • We've considered the same thing, but after doing a little poking around above the ceiling covering to see that it's made of, I'm not sure my coach's ceiling is designed/strong-enough to hold a mount and television....especially bouncing down the road. For now, I think I'm sticking with the old CRT television in the dash between the driver and passenger. I'm not planning to watch much TV anyway.....there's just too much to see out there to be stuck inside watching the idiot box. ;-)
