I want to upgrade my television to a new and larger flat screen. It weighs about 22 pounds. What I was thinking of doing was ceiling mounting it by drilling completely through the ceiling and putting carriage bolts through the roof, sealing them of course, and hang it that way. This way I could hold the TV flat to the ceiling while traveling.Has anyone done anything similar or does anyone have any hints tips or whatever that would help me out?Thanks!

Sounds exciting, please post pictures.All the class a projects I've seen on the utube seem to indicate that the roofs are pretty sturdy.A stud finder might find structure above the ceiling that you can anchor your mount into.What mount are you looking at using? How does it fold up with a tv attached?

No way would I drill through the roof without knowing what was inside. There could be wiring. Could you put a board across the ceiling and support it down to the floor somehow? I mounted mine to a full extension mount that articulates up, down, in, out, left and right. I got it at Monoprice.com but I think they discontinued it. I can position the TV anywhere I want. You are going to need some long carriage bolts. On my Monaco the roof from top to ceiling is about 8" thick at the peak.

You want to put more holes in your roof on purpose? I would seriously rethink this. The potential for water seepage and damage is huge!

I don't think you would be able to tighten it down. It's mostly thin underlayment and insulation and soft ceiling. If it moved around, the lap sealant isn't going to hold up on the roof.

The other problem you may run into is the TV itself. Most are not built strong enough to withstand the rigors of RV travel. The basic back mount will not stand up the vibrations of an RV travel.

I have found most mounts don't have enough tension to do that. I hope it works for you.
