Normally the carpet in the slide has a finished lead edge. The laminate finishes under the slide and under the carpet and under a sliding piece of hard plastic. Is that the piece you're thinking of cutting?
The laminate in my MH comes to within 3" of the outside wall and if cut off would reveal the stiff plastic piece under the carpet.
