I too found having a remote device works out pretty good for us as well...
Mainly the lights is where our remote comes into play...
This remote was picked up at the local AMES store ($20)..

This is for 120VAC but works great with the INVERTER setup when camping off the power grid... I actually have two of these units for the inside table 120VAC lights setup and the other one for the outside 120VAC patio lights setups... We are not big fans for 12VDC appliances and things. Most everything in our trailer is 120VAC. What is 12VDC is direct connected to the 12VDC power distribution panel. Any 120VAC Home entertainment systems, table lights, etc we need to operate is powered by the added INVERTER setup when camping off the power grids.
I like having ON-OFF controls for some of these items from the bed area...
Of course anything you have for 120VAC can be controlled with this remote unit by just plugging into to it...
Rather handy to have around...
