I did this one and it works great. The ten pound bag of ice from Publix would easily last all night.
10 pounds of ice likely will take all night to melt. But will it accomplish anything? Yes.
It will melt 10 pounds of ice.
No matter how hard you try, you can't change the laws of science.
It takes 144 BTU's to melt a point of ice, to then raise that water to room temperature another 40 or so, we'll generously call it 200 BTU. so then 10 pounds of ice would yield a maximum of about 2,000 BTU's.
That is equivalent of a very small window shaker running for about 20 minutes.
my experiment with ice was likewise that it would be ineffective. the focus now moves toward figuring out a way to muffle the compressor noise.
