Speaking from experience here - I worked several years remotely with per-diem. It cost me less than a weeks worth of per-diem to stay in a campground at monthly rates, so yes I pocketed the remainder. I was comfortable, had full hookups, and didn't need to worry about if I would be "caught" camping in "unacceptable" locations. For me it was worth the minimal expenses.

A political impossibility. I wouldn't dream of asking. They are already giving me money for a hotel, which I'm keeping. The second my shift is done, I'll be off the property as soon as possible.
