Hi,
It bothers people because there are far superior materials that could be used for insulating. You already see a problem with lack of heat rejection on the roof with the unit only 1/4 in the sun.
Look into change of phase materials. I'm not suggesting they are suitable because I do not know. But I'm certain they are better than 300 lbs of drywall.

300 lbs in drywall (which will act a a cool sink and reduce AC cycling) isn't a deal breaker. I can't figure out why this bothers people so much. If it cracks, I'll throw luan over it.
