3/4" insulation will not make that much of a difference when it comes to the solar gain you're experiencing, even with the radiant barrier.
IF the insulation is polyurethane, the R-Valve will be less than 5. To make the difference you're looking for you will need at least 2" thick insulation with the radiant barrier on both sides and that will only give you an R-Value of 12.
As for the drywall, all I can say is 'we told you so'.
