If you want it even better insulated, staple a 1/4" foam panel over the frame and the insulated cavities. That will give you a thermal break, When I did mine, I also installed a full 4 mil vapor barrier for condensation and air migration. 4 mil also rates R-1,
The metal "studs" in the trailer are 16 inches on center. They function as wonderful thermal conductors, taking the outside temp and transmitting it to the inside, and vice versa. Covering these will be a must. I think the material I looked at has an r value of around 5. Some will say that's not enough, but it's a lot better than the nothing that's there now. The proof is in the pudding, as they say. The only way to know the thermal integrity for certain is to do it and test it. I'll see what the factory insulation is there when I peel the existing luan. If it's insulated well, I'll be stunned.
I'd actually love to spray foam it with closed cell foam. For around $250 I could do that to the roof. I know it will stick and is extremely effective in terms of not transferring heat.
I'll be posting pics as I go along. Will be starting actual work in the next couple of weeks. First order of business is to install the solar panels on the roof and run the wiring.
