Custom Garmin 760LMT mount in our truck

Recently bought a Garmin RV 760LMT. The problem with GPS units is how and where to mount them. Windshields can be too far away and block the view of the road. Dashes normally don't have anywhere to attach one. I ended up making a custom setup so that it's close enough and can also be seen by DW the copilot. It does block the radio but that shouldn't be used the same time as the GPS anyway.

Our F250 has a recessed tray on top of the dash. I made a plate from 1/8" sheet steel and cut it to fit by making a cardboard template. I put a bend in it and welded on a tab for the arm. The cradle and 1" ball adjustable arm components are all from Ram Mount. The weight of the 1/8" steel keeps the mount firmly in place when driving and it can be lifted off and stored away for the winter. The screen can easily be turned if needed so DW can change settings while moving. I can now easily see and hear the GPS. The screen does get washed out in bright light and I've ordered a sun shade for it.

One unexpected thing was that we ordered the optional Garmin backup camera and the square pod thingy on the back of the GPS won't fit into the cradle properly so we have to manually plug and unplug the cable into the GPS every time we remove it or put it back in the cradle. I confirmed this with Ram and they haven't had enough demand yet to modify the cradle to suit.

Now I just need to figure out where to mount the TPMS instead of sticking it in the cup holder. :(

Myredracer. I did the same thing for my F 250... last fall but smaller metal and I used 3m "15" pound 2 sided tape... and it hanged over the edge of dashboard by a few inches. so easy to see the 5 inch screen. and mine is closer to the gear selector .

for my 5 inch Garmin 2597. now with the BC-30 backup camera on rear of trailer.

Would be nice to see a photo if you can.

    My truck a 2012 F 250 "XL" 2 wheel drive .. should be same as 211 to 2016.
  • I have enough room above my rear view mirror to mount the suction cup mount that came with my Garmin Nuvi GPS.
It does not block any of the mirror.

  • I found the ole bean bag donut holder to be the only one that actually stayed where I put it, could move it around depending on the sun's glare and can easily take it out and put it in my toad by simply pulling just the plug out of the cigarette holder, and to take down easily when parked to prevent theft.

You did a great job of mounting the Garmin. My concern however, is that during a motor vehicle accident, That piece of steel plate would go flying about the cab looking for someone to injure severely.

That's a good point. Will have to mull that over and see how I can add a restraint or secure it in place.
