Garmin 760LMT......Any opinions?

I have had 7 Garmin GPS's in the past and have been using the 760lmt for a few years now. The main reason I went with it was because of the size. Very few issues but 90% of the time I do my route planning with BaseCamp and download to the 760. I always preview the route that BaseCamp calculates in Google Earth to make sure where it is taking me is the best route and make adjustments as needed. It also helps me know in advance what to expect.

I have a camera on the back of my truck to use when hooking up. It is not the Garmin camera but purchased on Amazon for about $15 and works great. It is a wired camera so if used on the back of your trailer would need to be wired to the tongue and have a connector to continue the signal to the GPS. The camera input is one of the few things I like about the Garmin since it is a large display.

am starting to investigate the Garmin 770LmtHD. Christmas is coming.. Right Santa!
I know its designed for Trucks.
I do not need the RV campgrounds.. I have a 8" tablet with app's.

routes and restrictions are important.
and a backup camera behind the trailer would be helpful. ( BC-30 )

I like mine. But I would note that like, basically all GPSs, it has an irrational preference for interstate/US highways. So occasionally it will take you the long way around when a state or county highway would save lots of time. Check its route against an atlas or paper map and use your judgement.

johnhicks--I did plan the route in BC for Interstates. I had the route exactly the way I wanted to go but the 760 changed it. You are right about the learning curve for BC!!

Change it to "shorter". "Faster" will just about always want to do Interstates if possible. Approaching Atlanta I should have selected "faster" rather than leaving it on "shorter" but for normal traveling I usually use "shorter."

Also...I hardly ever just let the gps do its thing unless I already somewhat know where I'm going. For traveling I plot the route using Basecamp and make the route go the way I want it to go using shaping points. Then I transfer the route to the gps and off we go.

Basecamp has a somewhat steep learning curve and it's not intuitive but for me at least it's been well worth learning how it wants to work.

johnhicks--That might be my problem. But--when I go yo 'calculation mode' I can't delete 'faster time', can only change to either 'shorter distance', 'less fuel', or 'off road'. Did you change it to one of these and if so which one?

No, it's for RVs too. I wondered why it kept demanding that I take I-95 rather than US-301, which was shorter. Turned out "Faster Time" was selected; once unselected it was happy with US-301.

Beware that those settings on the GPS will override whatever you may have selected when creating a route in Basecamp. Once it was determined to take me across Atlanta on surface streets because that way was shorter.

Thanks. I had the same settings except for Toll Roads. From what I understand the Faster Time mode is only for auto, not RV.
