DIY RV Macerator Pump

Going to make a Macerator pump this weekend from a garbage disposal, I have seen plans on the internet and feel this will be better than the weak 12 volt one I got at Camping World for $240.00 that only after 6 months of use it has stopped working, would take it back but cant find receipt for warranty plus I have already dissembled it to see why it stopped working, the motor has gone out, its to weak as far as I concerned, so a 110 volt should work better.

And yes I do use a 3/4 hose but my distance is about 45 foot so I think the 12 volt just wont perform long term..

Any ideas on what works best would be great to hear before I head off to Lowes..

Perhaps you were thinking of the one from
    The Steampunk Workshop HERE
  • You might want to try contacting the manufacturer. They might be able to replace it under warranty even without a receipt. Especially if the device has a serial number they will know the manufacturing date.

It can't hurt to try - other than the time spent contacting them. Worst thing they say is no warranty coverage without a receipt.

  • I have been using one for many years when parked at my daughters. I pump 75' thru a 3/4" hose. Never a problem. Go for it, I think you will like it.

JMO but your "best idea" would be to simply invest in another FloJet Waste Macerator, presumably the same model you previously purchased at Camping World - a waste pump designed specifically for the purpose. Tens if not hundreds of thousands have been sold over the years with few complaints from owners and I can only add my own anecdotal "proof of performance" by saying I've had mine for 9 years now, use it dozens and dozens of times each season, output through a 50' 3/4" hose when servicing the tanks at home or a 25' 1/2" hose when camping, and haven't had any pump failure at all. If there was any "failure" it was on your part, not keeping the receipt so you could have returned it for a replacement ... difficult to blame FloJet for this. :R

You could save you self a lot of trouble by getting a "Sewer Solution".
It uses water pressure instead of electricity to move the wast.
It is self cleaning and easier to use.

Been using the Sewer Solution for years, one of the best products I have every brought.

    Just for comparison.......

My 12VDC Flojet Macerator is 8 yrs old.
Use it to pump 75' with a 2' rise.

Works great and I always have 12VDC

  • For my macerator I have swimming pool hose. I believe it is 1" ID. Anytime I have used it I had no problems. Good Luck
