Hi 12thgenusa,
I like your mod on the stove/oven and I was able to find the igniter block at Home Depot but not the high-temp fiberglass tape. Checked Lowe's, an electrical supply store, and Home Depot with no luck.
Where did you find the tape???
Is that wire holding up under the high oven temperatures?
Sorry I didn't have time to reply to your PM on this, but since you posted the question, read on.

. . .Since this kit is really intended for a grill, that would imply if you used the supplied wiring, it would at some point have to be run inside the grill to reach the electrode. Nowhere does it state that any precautions have to be taken to protect the wiring, so I assume it has high-temp insulation. One of the wires has a thicker insulation on it, so I chose that one to go inside the oven. I chose to not add any additional insulation and hopefully, my assumptions are correct since I ran up the oven temp and nothing smoked or burned and the insulation looks fine! However, that's just my experience ... I guess time will tell!
That was also my assumption when I did the mod. I guess I was a little "chicken" to leave the wire as it was so I wrapped it. A confession: the tape I used was leftover from when I was an aircraft A&P mechanic. We used it to wrap wiring that was contained within the engine nacelle. I honestly don't know the true temperature rating, but it is most probably less than 500 degrees and I don't know how much additional protection it affords. FWIW, it’s Scotch 3M fiberglass tape, but I have only been able to find commercial suppliers that require large quantity purchases. I have only done the one "smoke check" that I mentioned in the OP as the season is now over and I have to wait until next spring.:(
It's good to hear that you have tried the wire without any additional protection and that it seems to be just fine. Time will tell. My thought is that if the wire insulation and/or the tape are not up to the task, they will eventually become brittle with prolonged exposure to the high temp. The reality for us is that we will rarely use the oven above 350.
The oven igniter was almost an afterthought as my main displeasure was with the “hit and miss” burner ignition and we didn’t use the oven all that much. That may change now, as DW doesn’t have to stand on her head to light the oven.
