This seems to be a long standing problem with this stove. It has always been hard to light. I do know to make sure the top burners light first and the air is purged. It seems that the pilot only lights after the torch, match or whatever gets the thermocouple red hot.
I'm pretty sure that no gas gets to the pilot burner as it is suppose to when I push in on the control knob. I even tried turning the pilot off, letting it cool and trying to relight it. In this case I was positive there was no air at the nozzle. Still it would only light after I heated he thermocouple with my torch.
It appears that the only solution will be to replace the valve, although I will probably just keep my torch handy and live with it as is.
It's still great to be able to light the top eyes without having to turn the spark generator.
