Eternabond primer etc question

I have read forum threads till my eyes are hurting

Long story short

Wife and i bought a 33ft wildwood TT last july. So far only issue we’ve had has been a small tear in floor that was repaired under warranty. With so many problems associated with workmanship on new RV’s we feel extremely fortunate

I crawl on roof about once a month and inspect everthing. Factory seems to have done good job on caulking. I only touched up couple spots on front cap seal with self leveling dicor

Wife and i agree this will be our TT for at least 5 years if not longer. No kids just she and i so floorplan is great for us

I think im ready to seal the roof seams, vents, etc with eternabond to minimize roof maintenance. Im a diyer and have watched alot of videos on installation CLEAN SURFACE AREA

Ive got some basic questions

1.) Sides of roof have rain gutter. I plan on overlapping tape down into gutter. I assume eternabond sticks to plastic with no problems if cleaned and prepped properly?

2.). For side seams on roof, is it best to try 1 long piece for the entire length or is
Shorter pieces 5 or 6 feet more manageable?

3.) is the eterna prime worth the extra time and step ?

  • We didn't use the prime and 5 years later all our eternabond is still fastened down snugly. We have an aluminum roof with fiberglass front and rear caps. Did all seams, vents etc. Seams are all one continuous piece.

I would definitely use the prime. Did the side seams on my 5th. wheel and portions of my roof and the eternalness started pulling away within a year. Yes it was properly prepped prior to being applied. I re-did it but this time used the primer and it is still 100% good 2 years later. Pay a little more and only do it once cause it's a PITA to remove it even if it's pulling up on it's own. Just my 2 cents.

Had the same problem until I started using the roller properly. After that, no problems, never came off again

Thank you for that info. Thats what i was thinking also.

Make sure you use a roller when applying the Eternabond. I prefer a steel roller, some like a wood roller.

  • I used mineral spirits to clean the area before applying Eternabond.
I also used 2" Eternabond along the roof edge onto the rain gutter. I got two rolls and applied a continuous strip on each side of our 37' Southwind.

Welcome. Eternabond will work just fine. I never used eterna prime, I used eterna clean to make sure the surface was clean. Buy the 2" by 50' and install one continuous strip through the side.
You won't have to worry after that.
