Getting rid of carpet - even on the slides?

Sorry if this has already been asked, but we're looking at 5ers with slides and we have dogs to take along. In order to make cleanup of the occasional accident easier and keep our home on wheels smelling fresh, we thought it would be nice to get rid of ALL the carpet except maybe for the master bedroom.

Has anyone done this? If so, how did you deal with the slides? I assume there would be a small lip left over and that's why most people leave their carpet, but if we can avoid tripping on it, could we put vinyl everywhere - maybe with a small piece of molding at the edge of the slides to hide the edge?

If anyone has some good info on how to accomplish this - and especially photos - that would be really appreciated!

  • Howdy!

I replaced the carpet in our 5er with a laminate locking flooring including the slides.

Maybe you could find one, or order one with out carpet. Ours has no carpet, except on the extreme sides of the slide. None on the floor.
For us. Carpet in a camper, makes no sense, and is a deal breaker.
  • I did exactly that and made some custom runners to replace the removed carpet as an option. Actually except for the actual slide the carpet was laid over existing vinyl flooring as an option so I didn't have to add any vinyl flooring ... only removed the carpet and filled in the staple holes. HERE is an album with a descriptions of what I did and how I finished off the carpet that I left under the slide. Read the captions for each picture for a more detailed description.
