Honda EU2000i extended run

I am putting together an extended run for my Honda and Have the aluminum cap and a marine type quick disconnect.

I have read a lot about this and see no mention of, if the Honda genset itself should be started with a full tank??

If the Honda has a pump, why is a primer bulb needed?? Some seem to have a primer bulb, some do not.
  • Yes I always fill the genset first with my setup. Primer bulb is just because it was there in the line of the boat motor gas tank I use and I left it but never use it.
  • If you have one of those government approved gas cans to fill the generator, be aware that spouts that need pushed open against the tank opening may indent the plastic surface and prevent sealing. Get a good old can at a yard sale. An alternative is replacing the spout with one made to actually work like Ezpour.
  • The filler cap on the extended run tank is vented. On mine, the vent screws down tight to close, and screws out to allow air into the tank.

Thanks for the responses, tight cap?? Tight cap on the genset and I assumed the external tank would have to be vented to be able to draw fuel??

  • I got a Berg Dual Honda EU2000i extended run tank. It came with metal fuel tank caps, the rubber lines, and the tank. They can currently be had at CW, and probably other places as well. It holds 6 gallons.

  • having used an extended run tank many times

    1) you don't need a full tank to start, but you do need some fuel in the tank. Having it full makes it easy to see if the line is indeed working and the system has developed enough vacuum to pull fuel in.
    2) I've never used a primer bulb. Now using one will get fuel flowing quicker, but isn't needed unless you have very little fuel in the tank and a very very long line to the external tank.

One comment. it is vitally important to have a cap that seals well. with a bad seal, you won't develop vacuum and won't draw fuel. May seem trival, but it is harder than one may think to have a good seal. any wrinkle, cut, void in the seal material and against the cap and the honda input and you will get a leak.

If you have a good cap, (not all the ones available on line are equal quality) it's "easy peasy", a bad cap, lots of frustration.
  • I have never installed an extended run kt on an EU2000i, but all the ones I have seen have a vacuum operated fuel pump. No need to worry about how much fuel is in the inside tank.
