I added a heat vent to my bathroom

My Keystone Passport 238MLWE didn't come with a furnace vent in the bathroom, and it gets cold in there. So, after I had to open the furnace cabinet up for other reasons, I decided to run a duct over to the bathroom, and it turned out great!

Materials:
4" round heater vent outlet (I bought this from our local RV parts stoor)
4" round metallic vent hose (dryer vent hose fits fine)
4" round duct adapter for Atwood furnace (Amazon.com)
1 roll metallic duct tape
Misc. screws

Now, I have heat in the bathroom! The new vent outlet has a variable vane control so it can be shut off. It makes a big difference as to the comfort level in the bathroom on a cold morning.

  • I have not had any flow reduction to the existing vents. There were only two, and I think the furnace (25k btu) really likes 3 or 4. The furnace actually seems a bit more efficient now since the heat exchanger gets more air flow and doesn't run as hot.

I'm going to do the A/C as well if I can figure out how to get into the ceiling ductwork without ripping everything apart.

The heater vent I bought is adjustable, it's just hard to see. It pivots, and the little knob in the center opens and close vanes behind the grille. It will pretty much shut off completely, which is nice if you need to do anything stinky.
  • This looks like a good idea. Well done. Do you notice any flow reduction from the existing heat vents? I suppose one could add an adjustable vent outlet if needed to regulate the flow.
  • Super! We have to leave the door open...or it will be hot or cold.

Wish my bathroom was that close to the furnace. I would take a bit more than that, but still thinking about it.
