LED light strip install

I'm getting ready to install an LED light strip under my awning. I've seen a couple of videos of people installing them on the under-side of the awning attachment track so they shine straight down along the wall. Our exterior is dark painted. I want to illuminate the "patio" area under the awning, so I was thinking I'd install them on the MH wall about 1 inch below the attachment track so they shine out from the MH. The under-side of the awning is white along the inside and I'm thinking that would help by reflecting light over the area.

Anybody have any experience with the best place to mount them?
  • I've installed them on 2 Campers. First ones were the cheapest ones I could find on ebay.com. They were touted to be waterproof and did work for a while, but I got some corrosion and had some funny issues, they were the flexible circuit board type with a silicone bead covering the circuits and leds, and a double stick tape on the back. The corrosion was at the cut marks.

The last strip is the same but also came in a silicon tube. Really waterproof! I bought some good double stick tape from HD to mount. I placed mine 3" to 4" below the awning.

I got my 12vdc from the OEM patio light switch, and mounted the controler in a cabinet.

I'll take some photos when it gets darker tonight an post here.
  • We installed ours about 1" below the awning tract, and tied it into the patio light. We have a remote, so we can adjust the brightness. Works great.
