LED's and Bugs

Are outdoor LED lights any better at NOT attracting bugs than regular factory outdoor lights or do they attract the same amount of bugs no matter which type light you have?

Input appreciated.

  • I have a yellow led porch light. When parked next to friends with white porch lights I have near zero bugs.

Sounds like the bugs LIKE blue, but cant see red. I've seen red porch lights before, but that's a different story! ;)

Certainly if you had red porch light you might attract some unwanted visitors expecting certain "hospitality." LOL :B
  • It is not the source, led or conventional, but the color.

Yellow attracts less because some insects cannot see yellow.

And, of course, the intensity. The brighter the light, the more visible it is to insects.
  • Indeed, some LED lights do not seem to attract bugs. Please don't ask which, I put them in and only later realized the fact. Some are continues strip types, some are boards of SMD and others are bulb replacement and I cannot recall which had this effect.
