Not saying you're wrong thunderbolt, but my situation was different as I noted in my post above. I had enough adjustment in the screws to tighten the new Kwikset handle down just fine. Mileage will vary, so maybe the OP's situation will be different but it's worth a look.
My bath door is 1 1/4 and the kwickset wouldn't tighten up on it. The thickness is the issue. Kwickset also sells the mobile home bolt assembly seperate to use in your existing door. Works with a reg lockset. I used those on my Mfg home, a rental that I have. And I am old so those other stores don't have all of us. LOL.
