Bathroom door

Today we looked at a 2018 Keystone Cougar 5th wheel that had the bathroom door that was hinged in the middle. If some one was in the bathroom at the sink or stool no one else could come in. The door would have to be closed to use either of them......What a design disaster...
  • After buying rv's for over 50+ years I find a lot of buyers do not have a clue what is good and what is bad. I have been to probably 50-100 rv shows over the years and say which out hesitation that even the designers do not have a clue what is a good design and what is a bad design. Just what ever their CAD design program will fit into the box. A few years back we looked at a very nice expensive 5th wheel and my wife asked the salesman where the plates would go? There were lots of cabinets and drawers in the kitchen but none were deep enough for a 9" plate to go. Not even if they were stood on edge. In the photos the kitchen looked very useful but not once you started looking inside the drawers and cabinets.....We saw a very large rv that had no place to hang clothes......

Why do people buy stuff they don't like?

Because they're in a fog when looking. Too many ignorant buyers that don't look at function and get caught up in the bling.
Last year I was reading on a brand forum about a couple that bought a 5th wheel and they were complaining about the steps being too tall to get up stairs to the bedroom.
Instead of 2 steps the MFG only had 1 step before you reached the bedroom floor. How the heck could you have not noticed that when looking?
Ironically we were at an RV show on Friday and that same MFG has now added the 2nd step.

Most RV bathrooms won't hold two people, so what is the issue. The design worked to not block the hallway, what I don't like is the cheap construction of the door it's self. Seemed to have a stick on tape edge that will likely be all tattered in a couple trips.

Yep most 5th wheels we looked at had a lousy bathroom door design, you had to be careful opening the door or you could sweep yourself off the stairs. Whoever designs these floorplans is under 45, as maneuvering around that door at 3 AM to get in the bathrooms is asking for trouble.
  • Our last TT had a lousy bed room door design that blocked the bath room sink.
I turned the bedroom door into a slider to solve the problem.
So if you like the floor plan otherwise, that may be an option.
  • I had the same issue in my current 5W and my thought was what happens if someone had a medical issue? No way to get in. Then we had a drawer open traveling, no entry. (wife got it closed with a back scratcher) I took the door off and hung a curtain on a tension rod, stored the door for trade time.

It sounds like it but, some will buy the Cougar and think it's the best thing since sliced bread. Different strokes.... :)
  • Apparently the people who design these new units do not have to live everyday in them...and the kitchens are definitely designed by men, not women. Come on people, get in the real world!!
