Minor Annoyance Solved--Propane Tanks

On those occasions--such as today--when I take out both propane tanks for filling, the holddown bar and regulator fall to the bottom of the threaded rod. When I put the tanks back in, I have to fight with the bar and regulator as I'm trying to lift and position the 7 gallon tank. Today I fixed that. I lifted the top of the regulator mount and the bar clear of the rod and put on two 1/2"-13 nuts and a flat washer. I ran them down to about the right place. After I put the tanks in and tightened the holddown bar, I did a fine adjustment so the washer is an eighth inch or so below the bar and tightened the nuts against each other. Now when I remove the tanks the bar and regulator stay up high so I can use both hands on the tank.

Another option would be to slip a piece of PVC pipe over the bolt long enough to reach that same level.
  • I thought I was the only one having problems with the bar. Thanks for reminding me a providing a simple solution.
