I don't clean mine off. No need to anything that on them simply flips off when I fold them up. Because they are outside they do not bring debris inside.
If it is raining there is more of an issue. Step will be wet and need to be dried off. Otherwise the water will be carried into the trailer with the steps.
Do you store anything just inside the door? A cooler, or something that comes out upon arrival? The flip up steps will block the doorway and prohibit you from using the last minute storage space.
The steps are very stable but I don't think they are very well thought out in terms of function. I prefer the steps to remain outside at all times. Bringing them inside is deal breaker.
