Hope I'm not too late to share my experience. I went through the same situation last summer. The goal: keep damage level on the door to the minimum.
After consulting friends on another HTT forum, suggestions included clips, double sided tape, velcro, etc.
I had purchased the previously mentioned cheap wal-mart door mirror, with a frame (wood or plastic, I don't recall). When I went to the hardware store to purchase the clips, the employee (an experienced one) suggested that I drive the screws directly into and through the frame of the mirror, and into the bathroom door. No clips, no tape no velcro. I think that I used appropriate-size plastic anchors in the door for the screws to stay snug . Trust me, it is extremely tight and secure! I did not want any wobbling, or disaster (like 7 years of bad luck because of a broken mirror!)
We drove a lot with the HTT since the installation, and no sign of movement or loosening up!
Hope this helps!
Happy camping season
