New Garmin 760LMT with wireless camera install

I rebuilt my entire dash board to get the GPS up higher. removed the factory radio, made a bracket and bezel for it, and mounted it down low and put the backup camera screen in a "drawer".....

Also added new XM Radio receiver in a quick removable bracket that I can now move to the trailer or put on the motorcycle.

The wireless camera that came with the Garmin GPS went inside the trailer to watch the cargo (motorcycle). I already have hard wired backup cameras on the truck and the trailer...This wireless camera came in a package deal so I figured I'd put it to use.

The illuminated switch is to turn the camera off as needed

The XM antenna is a magnetic mount that I placed on the roof, next to the new marine AM/FM antenna I installed. All on a powder coated piece of steel

BTW...HUGE improvement of my AM/FM/ Weather Band reception with this new antenna. I was going to replace the radio as I thought it was junk. The factory antenna was junk. The radio is actually VERY good!

  • Nice work in both the truck and trailer.
Where did you mount the camera and well does it work for you? I was thinking of adding a GPS with a back up camera too.
  • Thanks!

The wireless camera is mounted inside the toy hauler, next to the refrigerator, looking back at the cargo area.

The video quality is OK...But not as good as the $17 backup cameras I bought off Amazon. This camera is really pretty poor in low light and just about useless in no light. Where the $17 Amazon camera with Infrared lighting work great in low light and no light.

Here is the camera system I bought for the truck and trailer

  • I just received my own 760 LMT but decided against the camera due to the poor performance of the camera after reading reviews.

Do you know if there is a way to use the camera port on the LMT with one of the cameras you listed in the amazon links? Seriously kicking around the idea of going that route with mine and mounting on back of the trailer.
  • Wow...I totally missed this point about the 760 having an analog video input.

I went crazy engineering a slide for a second monitor for the two cameras I currently have. I could have built a simple A/B switch and connected them to the GPS

I gotta start reading owners manuals!!!!
  • Bucky, do you know if the audio from the camera (or DVD player) will play through the speaker in the GPS?
  • I *think* its an output but don't quote me on that. Don't have mine with me to confirm or deny.
  • Also, be aware that some cameras don't last very long if they have constant power to them (at least that's what I'm reading). It is best to have switched power to them so they aren't powered up constantly. A simple toggle would work. And in the case of the Garmin, it would let the image automatically pop up, as opposed to having to manually hit the "camera" icon on screen.
  • I believe the "Speaker" is an output (Ear phone jack).

I've had the $17 backup camera on my truck "on" for the last three or four years. Sometimes 12-16 hours at a time on long trips with no issues.
