Garmin wireless camera bc 20

I have the Garmin RV760 gps. Thinking of adding the bc 20 camera system. I want to mount the camera on the back of our 5th wheel. I will purchase the 50' extension cable and mount the transmitter in the front storage area. Probably somewhere near the battery. The primary use is for backing into tight spots.
I don't want to drill into the fibreglass so I will likely mount the camera on the bumper. I will run the wiring along the frame under the trailer.
Anyone using this configuration?

    Works well.

Thanks. I sent you a private message when I first didn't get a response to my post. You were very helpful.

  • Thanks everyone.
It sounds like it will work better up high. I'll play with it when it gets a little warmer here.
  • I have the BC 20 and did exactly what your talking about. Only difference is I ran it up high and the wire across the roof and then put the transmitter in my front vent cover. Then tapped into a running light on the front of the trailer. Only issue is when your driving at night occasionally the signal will get interrupted for a sec and switch your gps to the back up camera. You then need to tap the back button on the GPS. Originally I did not have the extension cable and the problem was much worse but now with the receiver at the front of my trailer it only happens once every few hours driving at night. I don't do all that much night driving anyway so it works just fine.

You are correct, this is a wireless but the signal strength doesn't reach through the RV or very far. With the 50' extension and the transmitter mounted in the front compartment the picture is solid and clear and the transmitter is protected.

I had some experience with the Voyager wireless setup. It does have a nicer camera and better signal stregth but does get fuzzy with any kind of weather problems plut it is an extra monitor if you are using a GPS.
  • I have my rearview camera mounted inside the rear window of my unit. Found power for it inside the wall behind a small built in table/cabinet. Ran coax all the way forward and wrapped it onto the umbilical. Drilled and mounted a connector in the bed of the truck next to the 7-Way and ran coax from there up to the dash area. Downside is that camera has power all the time, but it has been on for over 8 years and still works. My RV is always powered when being towed or when parked at home.

  • I have a FW with a big back window and wonder about mounting the camera on the inside of the window rather than outside of the FW. I realize a person would probably still have to run the wire forward towards the TV, but I don't think that would be too big a deal if you were running the wire anyway from an outside mount. I wonder if a wireless one would be more usable from inside the FW than it appears to be, from reviews I've seen, from the outside of the FW?
  • I did not have a Garmen but I too mounted high and ran the cable under the rubber gasket that covered the screws that held on my rain gutter. I tried a low mount when I was pulling doubles to watch my boat tires. The only way I could keep the lens clean was to mount it in a piece of 4 in PVC sewer pipe attached below the bumper. It worked fine for watching the tires but I would not have tried to back the 5er from that perspective view.

I recommend trying a few different mounting spots to get the best view for you.
  • I am using this setup. I don't think the pic is as good as a standard backup camera but I don't have two monitors cluttering the dash. I had some problems with the GPS and Garmen replaced it. The setup seems to work pretty well now.

BTW, I mounted my camera up high.
